12/21 Weekly Summary

Today students watched Santa Claus 3:The Escape Claus .

We had a spelling test.

In math students did holiday word problems.

We had a extra in-door recess.

Students gave Mr. Irwin and Mrs. Zamir Christmas gifts and Mr. Irwin and Mrs. Zamir also gave us Christmas treats.

Merry Christmas to all.

Civil War Quiz

Today our students worked with Mrs. Zitzke's students as we did a quiz on the Civil War. The students shared iPads and took the quiz using eclicker. Room 318 was responsible for developing the questions on the quiz. The students had a fun time trying to answer the questions.

Thank you

Room 318 wants to give a special thanks to Mrs. Galewski for sharing letters from a great-great grandfather who served for the Union during the Civil War. She came in and discussed the letters and some of her family's history. The students really appreciated seeing and hearing the wonderful information.

12/17 News

In math, students used strings and rulers to measure different distances between cities on a map. 

Students practiced a fire drill this afternoon.  We have to make sure we set an example for younger students by walking silently and in a straight line.

In art, we made shrinky dinks.

Students were able to do an achieve article in the class.  We have more students who are reaching the goal of 75% on the activities.  Keep up the good work.

We reviewed our safety procedures during our community circle this morning.

Highlights of the Week

Monday: We had art in the afternoon and in the computer lab we did an achieve article.
Tuesday: We had physical education and music.
Wednesday: We went down to the computer lab to do an achieve article. We also had a concert and the students in it were Emily B., Emma L., Charisma B., Erin B., Bibiana S., Katherine P., Kira H., Jake H., Jordan S., Katelyn K., Leanna B., Cheyanne K., and Nadia S.
Thursday: We had S.E.L. in the morning. Our teacher was SuperSub (Mrs. M&M).
Friday: We had physical education and music. In music, we played Christmas Jeopardy.

12/13 Highlights

In SEL we played a game where we wrote our name on a piece of paper and passed it around for people to write positive words on it.

In math we did a test where we rounded and explained a problem.

We continued with the book Spy and a woman in the Union army.

In literacy, we picked a story from the past to revise to make a final copy.

12/11 Highlights

Today in math we were going over last nights homework because most of us got most answers wrong.
Library is on Wednesday.
We got new reading groups and new reading books.
We played soccer in gym. We read about Sarah Edmunds. In  music, we talked about civil war music.
Band, orchestra, and chorus concert is tomorrow.
Reminder to do your 30 minutes of reading so that our class can reach our goal of pages read per month.

Working on the Blog

Sabryna O. won our class raffle last week and as a prize she got to use the teacher's desk for a day. Here she is typing our blog entry for the day.

12/10 Highlights

As a class, students read an article on Kidbiz3000 that discussed a woman who tweeted about different events as if she was watching the Civil War.

Ms. Zamir was reading a book to the class about a woman who dressed up as a man so she could spy in the Civil War.  Students worked to find the sequence of events within the story.

The word sort this week has students studying reading strategy words.

In math, students practiced problems they may see on the unit test.  They also worked on constructing an agrument to support their reasoning for the problem. 

During art, students continued to decorate pine trees they have been making.

Weekly Summary

On Monday we had a tribes meeting.
We did some research for our Civil War questions and answers.
We started drawing our pine tree leaves in art.
On Tuesday we had gym and music.
We started reading a book called Cecil's Story to practice our inferring with the class.
We did more Civil War work.
We also did the math and literacy rotations.
On Wednesday we emailed our Civil War questions and answers.
On Thursday we did our community circle in the morning.
We also read a book called Hold The Flag High to practice our skills on cause and effect and inferring.  We also did it to read more books about the Civil War.
On Friday we went to a concert for the kindergarten and 1st grade (very funny).
The winners for the raffle this week are Destinee and Sabryna.

12/5 Highlights

Students took the point of view of a character from the book, Cecil's Story.  The purpose of the letter was to write to a parent that had left home during the Civil War.

In math, students are learning their final topics concerning number sense and decimals.  We will look to test during the middle of next week.

Students emailed their questions and answers concerning the Civil War to Ms. Rivest.

In literacy, we discussed how the cause/effect relationship can be seen all throughout history.

We wish our classmate, Austin M., a speedy recovery and we look forward to having our lunch bin carrier back soon.

12/4 Highlights

Library check-out is on Wednesday, so remember to bring all your books to school.

Students practiced their inferencing skills using the book, Cecil's Story.

Guided reading groups used different passages to practice finding cause/effect relationships.

Almost all students had their math homework done, so let's try to keep up the good work and have everyone complete it for Wednesday. 

In music, Mrs. Bina had us talk about the Civil War.

Friday, students will be participate of an audience to watch the Winter Sing.  Most are wishing they could be on stage singing, but we will have to wait for the Spring Sing.

On Friday at Wright Intermediate School, it is another swim night.

Monday's Highlights and Reminders

In the computer lab, we tried to finalize our questions and answers that we will ask the other students about the Civil War. 

Students are studying another set of Civil War words for the week.

During art, students began to make a pine tree ornament.

In math, groups continued to learn about decimals and positive/negative numbers.  Students had to write a journal entry about how they would use math as they do their holiday shopping.

Students participated in a TRIBES assembly that discussed their assembly behaviors.  The BEAR (academic) award winners for the month were Lexy M., Sabryna O., and Luis M.  The STAR (behavior) award winners for the month were Katherine P., Charisma B., and Leanna B.

Don't forget gym shoes for physical education on Tuesday.
