Highlights and Reminders
The student opinion writing on the best holiday is due on Friday.

In math, we took a quiz on perimeter, area, volume, and surface area.  We practiced with the different manipulatives that are used during the WKCE test.

We practiced our reading test strategies using an article called "Natural Disasters."

We continued to work on our voting posters, which will be completed by next week Monday, right before the Presidential election.

Our word work had us use the WKCE words that we defined yesterday by putting them into sentences.

Student Council is holding a food drive to help the Salvation Army.

Look for positive notes that the students are bringing home.

Jordan S. and Cheyanne K. won the lunch raffle for Friday.

Highlights and Reminders
We continued to work on our advertising posters about voting which will be due next Monday.

Students are listening to a story called, How Not to Run for President.

In math, we reviewed different number operations with decimals.

In music, we watched a Halloween video, and in gym class, we worked with different measurement exercises.

We began a writing piece that discusses our opinion of the best holiday.  This writing piece will be due on Friday.

Harvest Fest, sponsored by the PTA, is at the school tonight from 6-8.

Library on Wednesday, make sure to have all of your books.

Highlights and Reminders
We brainstormed and discussed different reading strategies to use during the WKCE test.  Our spelling words this week are terms that we might read while we are testing.

In art, we completed the personal flags we made to represent team Innov8tor.

In math, we practiced word problems and writing an explanation of our thinking, like we might have to do on WKCE.  We reviewed perimeter and area of a complex shape and calculated the surface area and volume of a prism.

As a class, we went on KidBiz3000 and read an article about a museum making an exhibit out of materials that President Obama used in the 2008 election.

It was Mr. Irwin's birthday, and he brought treat bags for the class.

Tuesday night is HarvestFest from 6-8 at the school.

Band has rehearsal at 7:55 am Tuesday morning.

Highlights and Reminders
We were able to check out new books for our long weekend.

In math, our focus on 3-dimensional shapes included talking about surface area and volume.

During literacy, students rotated through different activities to work on their voting posters.

On Friday, the Trunk-N-Treat is here at the Fieldhouse.

Next week, the PTA is sponsoring their Harvest Fest. 

Student council is beginning a food drive to help the Salvation Army.

Those interested in peer mediating need to get slips turned into Mrs. Prekop or Mrs. Benedict.

Highlights and Reminders
For our government inquiry, we began to make rough drafts of posters to get people to vote.  We are using different advertising techniques in our posters.

For music today, we played the game Just Dance.

In physical education, we used balloons to practice our balancing skills.

Remember to bring all your library books tomorrow.

Erin B. and Destinee R. represented room 318 in the school spelling bee, and we are very proud of their effort.

On Wednesday, it is the last day of the Book Fair in the library.  Also, book orders are due to Mr. Irwin if you plan on buying books. 

Parent/Teacher conferences will be on Wednesday night, so there will be no SPARC class.

Highlights and Reminders
In our study of geometry, we looked at perimeter and area of some two-dimensional shapes.

As a class, we read an article on KidBiz3000 that discussed the environmental issues in this election.

In art, we started to make our own flags.

We contined to study propaganda and how it can influence us in our lives.

As part of the homework, watch TV tonight and analyze the types of commercials that you see.

Remember gym shoes tomorrow for class.

Wednesday is the last day of the book fair.  It is also the day book orders are due.  Parent-teacher conferences are also Wednesday night.

It is a short work week, with no school on Thursday or Friday.

Highlights and Reminders
Students filled out a goal sheet talking about language arts and writing an opinion paragraph.

We discussed propaganda and different techniques to use in advertising.

In math, we continued to learn about vocabulary in geometry, especially with two-dimensional shapes.

We made stars to hang on our three branches of government tree with ideas we have learned.

Students took spelling tests today.

Book Fair was closed today.  It should re-open on Monday.

Book orders are due next Wednesday, October 24th.

Our raffle winners for the week are Charisma B. and Jalen C.

Trunk and Treat is on October 26th.

Highlights and Reminders
Students were able to take picture make-ups.

Tonight is the PTA skating at Incredi-Roll from 6-8pm. 

On Friday, we have physical education and music, so remember your gym shoes and your singing voice.

Adriann brought a birthday treat for the class.  Thank you.

In math, we began to study geometric vocabulary words.

In literacy, students worked on their different goals by using a book that describe 3 different people who made a difference in people's lives.

Student council had their first meeting today.

Highlights and Reminders
Thursday is the PTA skating at Incredi-Roll.  It is also make-up picture day and team color day.

The new intramural flag football season begins.

De'Angelo E. was able to find and give our missing rocks.  It was greatly appreciated.

Book Fair continues until next week.

In math, we finished with algebra and we will be moving to geometry.

In reading, students are working on their different goals as they read about the different election issues.

Book orders will be due next Wednesday, Oct. 24th.

Highlights and Reminders
A student had some rocks taken out of his desk.  If you notice your son or daughter with pink, green, purple, and clear quartz rocks (4 of them), the student would really appreciate getting them back.

Students participated in our class spelling bee.  The class winner was Erin B.  She will be joined in the school spelling bee by Destinee R.  The two alternates are Bibiana S. and Luis M. 

After school, some students will be participating in the district cross country run.  Good luck to all runners.

Students can buy items from the book fair during their recess time.

Library on Wednesday, so make sure all your books are here.

Thursday, October 18th is picture make-up day.  It is also Skate Night at Incredi-Roll.

During gym class, students played a game called Turtle Shoot.  You can ask them what the rules of the game are.

Highlights and Reminders
Students that are bringing beyblades, must keep them in their backpacks during the day and not at their desk.  They may be taken out to recess, but then not kept in their pockets.

Gym class had us do our mile run.  It was tiring.

In music, we discussed different types of classical music.  Katelyn K. read her opinion of music being the best subject for Ms. Bina. 

Spelling tests were taken and passed back.  Ask your son or daughter how they did.

Book fair begins on Monday.

Balancing of equations was our focus in math.

We practiced how to present a piece that we have written to a small group of students.

Students combined their ideas and questions about elections and voting.

Highlights and Reminders
As a class, a goal that we need to work on is our listening skills.  Especially, when we are not working with Mr. Irwin, but in our independent groups.

Ms. Wall discussed with us that as students we are not allowed to sell items on our own.  If we want to sell items for charity, the students have to have permission from Ms. Wall first.

Vikings beat the Bears in flag football in a well played game. 

In gym, we have the mile run tomorrow.  Remember, to dress appropriately and you can bring an item to drink, like water, gatorade, powerade, or vitamin water.

Fundraising and spirit wear packets are due on Friday.

Book Fair starts on Monday.

Highlights-
During library time, we were able to get new books and we saw a short video previewing the book fair next week.

A note was sent home detailing the mile run for Friday's gym class.  Students should wear clothes that are appropriate for running, and they can bring a drink, like water, gatorade, powerade, or vitamin water. 

The students were given a fire safety newspaper for fire prevention week.

Due on Friday, fundraising packets and spirit wear should be brought to school.

Dining out for Jefferson is tonight at CiCi's Pizza on Hwy. 100.

Highlights and Reminders
In music, we sang "I'm Just a Bill" from Schoolhouse Rocks.  Mr. K had us run 4 laps in gym class.

We have begun a read aloud book called How Not to Run for President.  We will be using this book to practice the skills for our reading goals.

Wednesday is our library day.  Make sure you have your books here either to return or renew them. 

Fundraising packets and spirit wear orders are due by Friday.

In math, we discussed what a variable means and how to write an algebraic expression.

Students bringing their own tech devices need to remember to use them at the appropriate times.

Highlights
We discussed for an opinion paragraph what information should be in our topic sentence.

There were two different fire drills today.  Both of them used the alarms.

In art class, we began to draw trees with oil pastels.

Some students began their orchestra lessons.  You can still sign up this week for orchestra.  Band students have their practices on Tuesday. 

Keep selling the fundraising items to help the school.  Packets are due by Friday the 12th.  Also, you can support the school by dining out on Wednesday at CiCi's Pizza.

In math, we did a quiz on graphs and discussed vocabulary words for number sense.

Vikings won in flag football.

As a class, we did an article on Kidbiz3000 in the IMC.

Highlight
Our class read a book with Mrs. Simon's class.  We had a wide variety of experiences with the younger students.

Spelling tests are on Friday.

Your final copy of your opinion about school lunch is due right when you get to school.
Orchestra begins lessons tomorrow.

In math, our focus was on converting different math measurements.

In Social/Emotional Learning, we created a poster on test taking.

Reading groups picked goals to work on and the color of their group.

Student council applications are due tomorrow.

Highlights
We took a math quiz on our ability to analyze data with mode, mean, median, and range.

Our first time checking out books this year went very well.

A class photo was taken for Mr. Irwin's Ipad.

In our journal, we heard the beginning of some creative stories about sneaking into the Constitutional Convention.

Orchestra has their first practice on Friday.

Student council forms are due by Friday, also.

Due on Friday, students must have written their final copy about their opinion of school lunch.

Highlights

In our physical education class, students ran 4 laps, but some students ran more.

We continued to learn about the 3 branches of government, and some of us wrote about them in our journal.

Wednesday will be our first check out from the library.  It is also a Wheeling to Jefferson Day.  Wear green to support your team Innov8or.

In math, we studied bar graphs and how to analyze the data.

The students continued to sing about the United States in music class.

Orchestra will begin this Friday.

Cadets are beginning to help the school during lunch and at the end of the day.

A letter is being sent home to describe KidBiz3000 and how students can work on the program at home.

Highlights
On Kidbiz, we were assigned a new article that discusses the importance of voting.

We shared our KWL charts that we had been making about the Constitution and Bill of Rights.

In math, students studied line plot and analyzed them with median, mode, range, and mean.

In art, we made designs based off a graph.

New word sorts were passed out.

Band members remember your instruments for your lessons.

You can bring gentle used books to donate to the Boy Scouts all week.

Wednesday is a wheeling to Jefferson Day.
