Highlights
The fundraising packets were sent home today.  The students listened to a speech about how to sell the items and what prizes they could win.

In gym, we had to run a half mile (4 laps).  It was a lot of fun.  We hope to do it again next week. 

During math, we reviewed coordinate grids and we started to analyze data by using the mode, mean, median, and range. 

Students brought home slips of paper to highlight some of the positive things they have done this past month. 

It was Kira's birthday and we had cupcakes.

The raffle winners receive a free lunch next Friday.  The winners are Jack B. and Cheyanne K.

Highlights
We took a quiz on fractions, and we took a pretest on measurement and data.

More students continued to read and participate on Achieve3000 with our article on the branches of government.

The new orchestra teacher gave a demonstration, and those interested in signing up should bring their forms back.

As a class, we tried to improve on our listening and using more self-control with our talking.

In our journals, we wrote creative stories about school lunch or fractions.

Finally, our STAR students were Zoe King, Tyler Brandon, and Emma Levra.  Congratulations!
Highlights
In math groups, we reviewed different fraction concepts.  On Wednesday, we will be taking a small quiz on fractions.  The students played Jeopardy! as a way of reviewing.

We participated in a PBIS assembly in which STAR students were recgonized and we learned more about I-messages.

Some students were able to begin their government article on Achieve3000.

In physical education, we ran 3 laps on the playground.  It was hard.  We also got to play tennis.

In music, we sang "The Star Spangled Banner" and "50 Nifty United States."

Most of the students have begun a final copy of their writing piece on their opinion of school lunch.

Highlights
Students received their spelling tests from last week and they got their new word list for the week.  Remember to have your spelling corrections done for Tuesday.

We took our final MAPs test for the fall.  This was our math test.

Band students remember to bring your instruments and music.

This week the school is focusing on the part of the Jefferson Way that talks about being Ready to Learn.

In math, we continued our review of fractions, discussing mixed numbers and improper fractions.

The class will participate in their second PBIS assembly during I-time on Tuesday.

Friday Highlights
Everyone is excited for the weekend.

The class took their first word sort spelling test.

We practiced multiplying and dividing of fractions.

The weekly raffle winners are Erin B. and Emma L.  Congratulations!!!

Our class had perfect attendance on this third Friday count, and there was 558 students at Jefferson today.

Daily Highlights
We took our reading MAPs test and everybody worked very hard to do their best.

The class participated in two fire drills this morning.

We will be taking our first spelling tests on Friday.

Tomorrow is a favorite team spirit day.

Book orders are due on Friday.

It is the 3rd Friday head count for school.   All students that attend and are on time will receive a special treat.

We'll be doing our weekly raffle on Friday afternoon.

In math, we will be moving on to multiplying and dividing of fractions.

Daily Highlights
Get a good nights sleep and a healthy breakfast as we take our reading MAPs test on Thursday.

We have been discussing and writing about our opinions of school lunch.

We will be practicing our fire drill procedures.

During our literacy rotations, new areas were assigned to the activities with the hope of making them more productive.  For the first day, it helped keep students on task and engaged in their learning.

Reminder to wear our team color to school. Our color is green.

We did our first word sorts for the year.  It was alot of fun.

MAPs testing is on Thursday, and book orders are due by Friday.

In gym, we were practicing kicking and throwing a football.  In music, we were learning about the Star Spangled Banner.

With fractions today, we worked on different ways to compare them.

Our next MAPs test will be on Thursday of this week.

We started to work on fractions, focusing on equivalent fractions.

The first word sort words were passed out today.

The class finished hearing the story of the Dandelion Warriors.  It talked about being a good team member and how to compromise.

Daily Highlights
Monday is a school spirit day.  Wear your Jefferson clothing or black, red, and white.

In math, we took a quiz on number sense and operations and we took the pretest for fractions.

There are still a few people with anti-bullying pledges and green student information sheets to be returned.

We did several activities to practice working with a partner.  We did a read aloud with turning and talking, solving a math word problem, and trying to put cute puzzles together. 

Another activity to work on our word skills was taking the words community agreements and trying to make other words out of the letters.

Our raffle winners for the week are Dashanae and Luis.

Highlights for Thursday...
In our journals, we got to be creative and invent our own candy in honor of Roald Dahl's birthday, the author of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

We took a math quiz that worked on place value and number operations.  Next, we will be reviewing fractions.

On Friday, students should wear the colors of their favorite sport's team.

Book orders were passed today.  They will be due next Friday, September 21st.  Please pay for the orders with a check.

Daily Highlights
As  a class, we began talking about the government.  The students created an anchor poster of government terms from their background knowledge.

We began to practice the different activities during our literacy block called the Daily 5.  The activities are work on writing, partner reading, read to self, word work, and guided reading. 

The students took their first MAPs test of the year.  It was their language arts test.  Most felt they did pretty good for the first test of the year.

Many students wore green to help participate in our team spirit day.  Every Wednesday will be a team spirit color day.

Students will show team spirit by wearing green.  They also begin their fall MAPs testing.  Make sure to get a good nights sleep and eat breakfast.

During class today, we began to read an article about the statues on Easter Island and practice the skill of monitoring our comprehension.  At home, students can spend part of their reading time looking up answers to questions they thought of in class.  Hopefully, they will find answers and be willing to share the information with the class tomorrow.

Reminder for parents, if you still have forms, turn them into school as soon as possible.  This includes the anti-bullying pledge and the student questionnaire sheet (green sheet).
